Pool cool

August 5, 2008

Something happened today that points out that sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. My editor sent me to the pool to take some pictures of whatever was happening, we needed a picture to fill the page. I went out and some kids were diving so I wandered over to grab a couple of shots.

I was using a Canon point and shoot because the sports guys get the real cameras. This camera takes a second to take the picture after you press the button so you have to push the button before you think the action is going to happen. It usually takes me a couple of tries to get a good shot because I’m not much of a shutterbug, I don’t take many pictures at home, and the ones at work tend to be for what we call grip and grins, and they are usually posed shots.

I missed the shot I wanted, a kid diving from the high dive but the shot turned out to be more interesting because of that: The girl is actually walking along the side of the pool but the splash from the diver makes it look like she’s exploding out of the water. And no, the picture is not Photoshopped except to change the resolution to 72 dpi to change the size of the picture.
